Records… Records… Records… That’s the only term that everyone in the trade is using at the moment to address a monster called KGF: Chapter 2. After clocking the biggest opening weekend of all time with collections of Rs. 143 crore, the Yash starrer gangster drama has collected Rs. 50.50 to Rs 52.00 crores on Sunday to take the four-day weekend total to Rs. 194 crores.
This is the highest ever four-day total for a feature film in the Hindi belts, surpassing previous best, Baahubali 2, which had collected around Rs. 160 crores. The movie has also surpassed the Salman Khan film, Sultan, which held the record of highest collection in four days for a Bollywood film. The movie will cross the 200 crore mark on Monday with utmost ease and is looking to close the first week with collections of over Rs. 250 crores.
The Prashanth Neel film is a legit blockbuster of epic proportions and is headed to challenge the lifetime collections of Dangal. At this point of time, anything can happen and one can’t even rule out the possibility of it touching the number of Baahubali 2 (Rs. 511 crores). The hold in collections on Monday and Tuesday will give a clearer idea on where the film is headed in the long run.
After nominal drop on Friday and Saturday, the mass belts were matching the occupancies of Thursday across the board and this is a historic feat given that the occupancies were higher than usual on every single day. Yash as Rocky Bhai has become a pop culture for the audience today, and the craze is not stopping anytime soon.
The Hindi audience got to see a hero playing to the gallery cinema after a long time, and that’s reflected in their excitement for KGF 2 and also RRR, which released a month back. KGF 2 is a blockbuster and in all probabilities will be the highest grossing film for the year in the Hindi belts as not many in the time to come have the potential of clocking Rs. 300 crore at the box office.
